Who doesn’t love Christmas, it’s a season full of family, parties and great food. However, with it comes short and gloomy days, potential money issues and seeing that one aunt you despise. Here are a few ways, to ensure you are still taking time for yourself among all the hustle and bustle.
Exercise
I can already see you rolling your eyes, but hear me out. Exercise helps to manage your stress and anger levels, increases your energy levels and can give you that confidence boost to rock that party outfit.
Avoid comparisons
Social media can be challenging at any time of the year, but Christmas just encourages our brains to compare to the max. When you’re scrolling through your feed looking at everyone’s happy prezzie pics, remember nobody is posting about the burnt turkey or the boring lecture they just had with their grandparent.
A healthy diet, keeps the frowns away
I know my favourite part of Christmas is most defiantly the food – pigs in blankets, Christmas pudding and don’t forget the Yorkshire Puddings! A healthy diet keeps your energy levels high, which seriously helps boost your mood. Perhaps, you could have a bowl of fruit for breakfast or have extra helping of veggies at dinner?
Me Time
You can often feel pressured to spend all your free time around loved ones around this time of year, but still make time for yourself. (This is especially important for the fellow introverts out there!) Perhaps, it’s making time for a hot cup of tea before bed or watching an episode of your favourite comedy show. Why don’t you let out your inner five year old and start colour – make sure to stay in between the lines!
Sleep
Over the festive season, lots of us find that our sleeping patterns get disturbed. We often stay up chatting and indulging on a drink or two. Lack of sleep can have a direct negative impact on our mental health, so try to catch up on missed sleep or stick to a set bedtime.
